    Overview

The Family and Community Support Services department deals with a number of social issues which affect the members of Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN). These issues include family violence and abuse as well as preventable illnesses such as fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and fetal alcohol effects (FAE) and the protection of the legal rights of youths or children. The department can also give advice on guardianship when a family is dysfunctional or the parents are unable to take care of their children.

The department is responsible for keeping up to date on any changes in the Child Welfare act and provides a point of contact for any families who have cases which go to court. In general the department works for the community to provide awareness and to try to prevent problems before they occur through workshops, training or just the provision of information.
