Introduction:
Before initiating an appeal, calm down and think clearly about your
responsibilities and your rights. Have you exhausted all of your options?
Did you meet the deadlines for your application? Did you meet all of the
criteria? Did you do all of your follow-up to qualify? These and other
questions should be clearly thought out.
- Do not personally attack anyone involved with the process, this may hinder
your chances. Not every life or classroom frustration can or should be the
object of an appeal
- You should be aware that an Appeal Hearing is the last step action, all other
means of resolving issues, should be exhausted before formally requesting an appeal.
- Requests for an Appeal Hearing will only be granted to those who have stayed
within the process as outlined.
- Lobbying any Board Members when initiating an appeal or when in the midst of appeal
may terminate your appeal
Appeal Committee:
- Band Councilor
- Tribal Administrator
- Economic Development Officer
Non Approved Sponsorships Appeal:
Introduction:
This appeal mechanism is for individuals who may feel that they have been denied
sponsorship unfairly. Appeal's must be made within two weeks of the date of the
letter denying sponsorship.
Process:
- Send a letter addressed to the Cold Lake First Nations, Human Resources Department,
requesting an appeal. Be very specific when stating your case that relates to why you
feel you have been unfairly denied.
- The Human Resources Department will review the appeal letter and forward copies to
the Appeal Committee.
- The Appeal Committee will make a decision on the matter at the first opportunity of
a scheduled Appeal Committee meeting. You will be notified verbally and by letter
regarding the decision, within two days of the Appeal Committee meeting.
- 4. If a client is not satisfied with the Appeal Committee decision a written notice
requesting an Appeal Hearing shall be addressed to the Appeal Committee within two weeks
of the decision made by the Appeal Committee. This letter must include new evidence for
the reason for an Appeal Hearing.
- The Appeal Committee will re-evaluate the new evidence and make the final decision
which will be binding and without further recourse.
- If a written notice by the client is not provided within the two weeks to the Appeals
Committee, then the decision in number three will be considered the final decision

Active Student Appeal:
- Any problems or issues that may arise should be first discussed with the Training
Instructor and the student. A student must take the personal responsibility to exhaust
all other avenues prior to making an appeal.
- If resolutions cannot be made between the Instructor and the student then the student
must provide written notice to the Cold Lake First Nations, Human Resources Department.
The letter must specifically state why you are appealing.
- The Human Resources Department will review the appeal letter and forward copies to
the Appeal Committee.
