    Overview

The Cold Lake First Nations Information Technology (I.T.) Department began operations in 2003, as a direct result of technological requirements. These changes were planned and implemented by Cold Lake First Nations Band Member and I.T. Manager, Thomas Piche. A Honors Graduate from NAIT’s Modern Office Specialist Program, Thomas was successful in transforming 25 stand alone computers on dial-up internet, to a secure network using a Microsoft Server with the capability of deploying software and hi speed internet to the 25 Administration Office computers. New XP Operating Systems and XP Office software was installed. Thomas also assigned and manages all Band Office Email Accounts.

In addition to the Program Managers, each of the Chief and Councilors of the Cold Lake First Nations have new computers in their offices to meet their email and communications needs and will be receiving the on-going training to manage their workloads.

With the advent of the Alberta Government’s SuperNet Project, Hi Speed fibre optic cable has been installed in every reserve Health Center and Band Offices in the Province. Cold Lake First Nations took advantage of this opportunity by using the Administration Office’s SuperNet connection to distribute hi speed internet services to the community including LeGoff School, Dene Wellness, Yagole Daycare, FireHall, and Computer Learning Centre (Old Hall). Work is under way to connect the Band Members as well.
