DIAND subsidizes the construction, repair
and renovation of on reserve housing for eligible families and
individuals, in co-operation with the Canada Mortgage and
Housing Corporation (CMHC), DIAND and CMHC also provides funding
for training, management and technical assistance to First
Nations.
The goal of the housing program is to establish and
maintain a level and quality of family accommodation that meets National
Building Code standards. The housing program is directly administered by
individual First Nations.
The Public Works department is
responsible for the administration of Housing, Public Works,
Environmental Services, Fire Department, Capital Projects,
Disaster Services, and Cemetery. The mandate for the
department is to maintain standard quality for healthy
living for Cold Lake First Nations members
