On Monday May 17th 2020 Councilor Gina Russell attended an online pre-announcement meeting with the Federal Minister of Justice, David Lametti in relation to the Call to Action 50 Funding (https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/fund-fina/jsp-sjp/pfo-pfc.html) whereby Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) was one of 21 approved projects that will focus on the Nation’s Dene Laws. Councilor Russell made it quite clear that CLFN is working on its own laws and needs to be the one to define its own membership, not the Federal Government. Councilor Gina sees the need for the Federal Ministers and Lieutenant Governor to meet with CLFN more often in order to work with CLFN to address historical injustices, otherwise the responsibility to do so will fall to our grandchildren.
