Cold Lake First Nations, in conjunction with the Government of Alberta and the University of Saskatchewan are working on a study of the local fishery to determine its health and long-term viability.
The program, initiated by the NDP government, aims to engage three indigenous communities in the province in the oil sands regions to develop a community-based monitoring system for environmental resources, particularly fish. The three communities currently taking part in the study are Athabasca, Peace River, and Cold Lake.
