Cold Lake First Nations has successfully ratified the Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits Settlement Agreement and Trust Agreement, following the official community vote held on October 5, 2026.
The ratification process required two thresholds to be met: more than 50% of ballots cast had to be in favour of the Settlement Agreement and Trust Agreement, and the members voting in favour had to represent at least 25% of all eligible Cold Lake First Nations voters.
The final results showed overwhelming support for the settlement. Of 2,492 eligible voters, a total of 1,462 ballots were cast. There were 1,357 YES votes, 94 NO votes, and 11 spoiled ballots.
The 1,357 members who voted in favour represent 54.45% of all eligible voters, exceeding the participation threshold required for ratification. Among valid YES and NO ballots, approximately 93.5% voted in favour.
With both ratification requirements met, the vote was officially declared successful by Ratification Officer Brett Billey.
The successful vote marks an important milestone for Cold Lake First Nations and follows the work of past and present leadership, legal advisors, staff, and community members who participated in the Agricultural Benefits settlement process.
Cold Lake First Nations will provide members with further information regarding the next steps in implementing the Settlement Agreement and establishing the Trust as the process moves forward.
